Nick Mitchell –
I ordered this safe because the design and locking system satisfied my requirements. I have another safe with an electronic lock. I learned the electronic lock can be easily defeated, and I have been concerned about battery or electronic failures. Viking’s safe totally met my needs. It is very solidly built, here in the USA, by a company that appears to know what they are doing. It is strongly built and has a great durable finish. Shelving is totally functional. This is my first experience with a Simplex lock. The directions for setting a new combination are very clear; however, I failed to understand the mechanical sensitivity. As a result, I did not fully press one of the number buttons when resetting the combination, and I caused the lock to become non-responsive. I emailed Viking and got a fast response. I soon was contacted by Brian, one of the company engineers. Since I followed the instructions about keeping the safe open when resetting the combination, Brian during a phone call, walked me through the process to clear the lock and reset the combination. GREAT SERVICE AND GREAT PEOPLE!

This is for the 50sx model. I settled on the Viking brand and this specific model after several days of researching various safes and lock boxes, and watching review videos. I chose this because it met my size requirements, quality and because it is quite secure compared to other options out there. There is a steel plate behind the simplex lock to prevent it being forced and walls are thick. There is also no backup key (a good thing) or alternate entry method which is a weak point for many of these types of lock boxes.I like that it can be mounted from the bottom or back. I mounted mine inside a hall closet using 2x4s secured to the wall studs across the back of the wall, then the box secured to the 2x4s through the pre-drilled holes (this was needed in my case as the holes didn’t line up perfectly with my existing studs as the closet is an odd shape). I did use my own hardware to secure the box to the wall as I wanted beefier screws. You can use a 1/2 push for your final number on the simplex lock, which significantly increases the number of possible combinations.I liked this model well enough that I have since ordered the 12lsx model to keep in my car to secure items while traveling.

Ordered my safe which came on time and was as described. The shipping company scratched the corner of the safe which I reported to the seller. They immediately got back to me and worked out a fair resolution which I very much appreciated without having to send everything back. Love the safe, and even more so the prompt service!

I love the Simplex lock, and was looking for one. This one came in an unusual size, bigger than the tiny boxes but not a giant safe. And it’s not a heave real safe, which is fine, so not a fireproof that will stop real criminals with tools. But it can be bolted down to the floor, from the inside, which I did.It will keep nosy people out of cash, important papers, etc. It’s strong enough to count as a gun safe, and can be opened very quickly. It has no batteries, etc., because it’s that Simplex lock.I love this thing, I’m going to buy another one for one of my kids.

Have had the safe 8 months now. Everything works well and I don’t have to worry about the battery dying. It fits my two pistols perfectly along with spare magazines and legal documents. Pretty pleased with the purchase although I was nervous spending $450, but well worth it.
