The VS-50BLX Safe offers top of the line locking system – upgraded 500 DPI Optical Fingerprint Reader, Numeric Digital Keypad and LCD display. Store up to 32 unique fingerprints and 1 PIN Code into the VS-50BLX’s non-volatile memory. The VS-50BLX’s advanced Optical Sensor will only recognize the registered fingerprints, and the PIN Code / Key acts as a backup in case the safe needs to be accessed by someone whose fingerprints have not been programmed into the safe. This safe is made of steel, its laser cut, pry-resistant, seamlessly welded with military scratch resistant finish. Ordered this safe primarily to store a handgun in, but wanted more space for other things such as passports and important papers. Would have liked to had one with a fire rating also, but the price point and functions of this unit seemed very good to me. No issues with setting up the access code and fingerprint scans. I like the fact that you can store so many fingerprints. Allows you to store different fingers, but also several of the same finger with varying placement on the reader so it opens every time. I mounted mine to the floor with lag bolts, but it has the option to secure to the wall and comes with drywall anchors if needed. The only issue I had with the safe is that the plastic battery cover on the inside of the safe had a retaining tab broken off and so the cover would not clip into place. Contacted the company by E-mail and they didn’t question me at all. They just said that they would send one out right away – and they did. Overall very happy with this Viking Biometric safe purchase.

Arrived earlier than expected. I wanted this to store handguns and some valuables. A little rough around the edges, but great value for the dollar. Quick and easy to put batteries in the light and the lock mechanism, and to program my fingerprint. quite pleased with the safe.

Walls (not door) appear thin but access is easy and 4 shelves useful. Anchoring bolts not simple to install. Good for moderate home use, would not store the crown jewels here.

Hate to give this a negative review. Really wanted it to work. Everything about it worked perfectly. Until I finally got around to bolting it down. Drilled the holes. Mounted the bolt assemblies on the bottom of the safe so as not to lose the bottoms down the holes. Carefully lowered the safe with the bolts down into the holes. Then tried to tighten them down from the inside. The casings just spun in place. Guess I shouldn’t have expected anything else. Realized I could’ve drilled the holes a little more snugly, but they were right in between 7/16 and 1/2 inch and there’s nothing on the casings themselves that would keep them from spinning. Tried to make up for my mistake with electrical and Teflon tape around the casings to make them more snug. Hoping they would catch and stay. Lowered the safe in again. It was a tighter fit this time and tightening some of the bolts down gave me hope. But after tightening them for some time I could still lift the sides of the safe and move it around. Not secure in the least. So I gave up on these bolts and worked for a while to get them out again and push the casings, which were bent despite my careful tightening, down into the floor so I could buy some real anchor bolts. And that’s where I am now. I’ll look around here and I’ll probably run down to Lowe’s to see what I can find. If you’re going to bolt this safe down, which, in my opinion, is the only thing that makes it a safe, just throw the bolts that come with it away when they arrive and plan on getting something real. Other than that, I think the safe will be excellent. But for the shear frustration and time spent messing with these horrible bolts, this gets one star.I’m updating this review after cooling down a bit. I went down to Lowe’s and found toggles that go by the brand-name Toggler. Snaptoggle, to be more specific. I’m so impressed with this little piece of engineering. They went right into the half-inch holes I had already drilled and – unlike the bolts that came with the safe – held themselves in place while I put the safe on top and put in the screws. The screws don’t look like much, but the package says they’ll hold 800 pounds each in concrete or 250 pounds each in half inch drywall. Oh, and I bought some #10 washers too for the screws because the openings in the bottom of the safe are larger than the heads. I figure that if the four of them together will require between 1000 and 3200 pounds of force to pull up then at least a pretty hefty sledge hammer would be required to get the safe up off the floor. The floor would probably come up first. At least it won’t be simple. And that’s the whole point. So these toggles saved the day for Viking. It would have been so simple for Viking to include something like this in the package instead of the worthless bolts they sent. A five dollar value. Hopefully they’ll throw them in in the future and save people all the trouble. So four stars now for what still seems to be an excellent safe that required a lot of extra trouble on my part to install.

I wrote earlier about my difficulty getting a response from the service dept. It turns out that the service dept is one person who was away for a family issue. She responded promptly when she returned to work and solved my problem with the safe lock mechanism. The sensor was glued into position poorly and its ‘wings’ needed to be bent to make nice contact with the lock. Now the door locks properly. I like the safe – it’s sturdy and convenient. I’m just a bit concerned about the quality control.

I have had this sage for just under 2 year (Feb 2016) and have nothing but good things to say about it. 1st and foremost of importance is the biometric sensor , if works amazingly , you would almost thing this came from a multi thousand dollar safe. Secondly the original batteries are still going strong , and while I don’t get into it every day I get in it multiple days a week. WONDERFUL SAFE AND WONDERFUL Build.

very nice safe and works well. I love the biometrics on it .. very sleek and fast to get into.. im guessing in and out in less then 15 secs or possibly 10 secs.. but the led light that is built in is a huge bonus.. i have another biometric safe and it does not have the led light and i have to use my ball cap light just to see what im grabbing and this led light gives you enough light to see on all shelves as well..Thick gauge steel and is very sturdy and a must have for the homeowner who has either guns/medicine/or just precious metals/and coin collections etc.. it has room for all of these things. and the shelves are interchangeable and have a carpet covering to dampen the sounds of putting your kilo bars of silver in it or a gun if need be..so if you had an intruder then he wouldnt hear you getting your gun out of the safe..lol,,, but this is the fastest kind of safe for quick draws or bugging out or to keep family collectibles,stocks and bonds or legal documents for quick access..like in my case i have custody of my daughter and i keep my custody order in there along with medical info and and highly important documents as well as passports ans visas.. The only thing that i see that is not nice is the light duty plastic shelf and clips . just had a few broken clips for the shelves and some paint/powder coat scratched off from shipping but i am now waiting on the seller to send me some touch up paint and a few more clips.. they give you some for extras but i had to use most of them.. but after i get it touched up and and have spare clips for future moves..then i will say It was the best safe ive ever bought..lol so seller if you see my request please respond back so i can mount this thing already..lol waiting on the touch up paint and a few more shelf clips..

Our safe LCD display stopped working after one month which meant we could not open it with pin or fingerprint. At first I thought manufacturer was unresponsive but I was wrong. I had used the wrong email address. As soon as I corrected that the company contacted me immediately and assured us they would replace the safe but carefully walked us through a self repair (checking connections to LCD) and it worked. Just a loose connection that was remedied by easy plugging it in. I suspect it must have been loosened in shipping or installing. Bummer yes but company totally backed up their product.

This safe is awesome. I know that it works because we had the unfortunate displeasure of having someone try to break into it. See pictures as evidence. The person used all kinds of tools a robust hammer picks and screwdrivers but try as they might they could not get into the safe. They gave up and left with their tail between their legs, leaving the tools tossed aside in frustration. We could not open the safe, but called Viking customer service and got some wonderful tips to get it open and ultimately got a locksmith out to our home that got it open in a matter of minutes, and it still works perfectly now! I would highly recommend this safe! I absolutely loved the safe and its features prior to that… I had the smaller medium model as well, and then got this larger model and love both of them for their ease-of-use and functionality, and now I know that they truly do serve their purpose as well, to protect what you put inside of them! I highly recommend this company and this safe!

I searched for a safe to hold a couple of hand guns and ammo that did not weigh 400 lbs and was about 2 cubic feet. I also had three criteria: Biometric, Keypad, and real keys incase everything failed. I would consider this safe a strong box. It is not really heavy but my goal was to keep my items from others in the house. I did not want a safe that weighed so much I could not move it again. This safe can be bolted down. It is a build built metal case. The shelving could be a little stiffer but does support things well. The setup was easy and programming your finger prints was also easy. There are some reviews from others but my experience is a good one. I searched very hard to find a quality safe with the criteria above without breaking the bank. I am happy I chose this safe. Hope this helps anyone looking for the same thing.

This is a good safe for the price. Everything is as advertised and I especially like the fact that it is carpeted inside, even the 3 shelf’s are carpeted. You have pre-drilled mounting holes on the bottom and the back of the safe. Simple to operate and you have three ways to open it (Fingerprint, combo or Key). Last but not least, it’s spacious inside!
