First, I already own the Fort Knox safe, and it is built very solid. I bought a few more guns so I needed a new safe and I was inclined to buy another Fort Knox safe. (I don’t trust Biometrics or Electronics)Lucky for me Viking just came out with a similar model, but I was not sure if it was as solidly built as Fort Knox. Nevertheless, I decided to take the risk.To my pleasant surprise, the actual metal casing is the same, and the safes weigh about the same as far as I can tell. If anything, the Viking Safe is slightly heavier. The Viking Safe also has a genuine Kaba Simplex lock and a gas strut. There are similar safes to the Viking. However where Viking safe Excels is in the smaller details:1. The first and the MOST important is the Viking Safe includes a metal casing to protect the simplex lock. You can see on YouTube, without the protection Simplex locks can be EASILY BROKEN into.2. It includes a coy light for nighttime intruders. It runs on separate batteries that don’t affect the lock in anyway.3. Maybe this is not important to you but the Viking safe has high quality padding on all sides thus protecting your guns from getting scratched when you move them in and out or when you use your safe for travel. The other safes only have cheap carpet on the bottom that is not even taped down.4. The Viking Safe also comes with EXTRA padding to place over your guns while the other safes have a permanent glued foam that takes up a lot of your space if you find you do not need it. Basically, the other safes have very little room because of the glued-on foam.5. The Viking safe has a nice “kangaroo” bag on the opening door that allows you to put in extra cartridges or other misc. stuff.6. Lastly the Viking Safe comes with a cable that can be removed. This may be important to some and not to others. The Viking Safe like the other safes still comes with holes that allow you to bolt it down. However, for those that want to put it on top of a nice dresser this may not be an option.Note: The Viking safe does come with a model that has no Cable (VS-12SX) but I got the one with the cable just in case I ever need it.In short you should BUY the Viking Safe. You will not be sorry and likely very happy.

This safe is a must buy. It has some good heavy weight to it and everything feels good quality. Very straight forward with the instructions. This one and the Fort Knox which is considered the best gun safe for pistols are literally the same. Love the led lights inside and the extra storage pocket that it has. Would totally recommend.

I don’t often write review – matter of fact this might be my first one. I purchased a safe from this company and had an issue with setting the code. I emailed the company, they VERY promptly got back to me in a very personal and committed fashion. Within 2 days, two days – I received a text message from their tech, Brian, asking to set up a time. He called me directly and we worked through the issue on the phone. He was incredibly professional, knowledgeable and offered multiple solutions. We resolved the issue and I could tell how much pride he took in his product and company. I will never buy from another company.

Good safe. One of the few safes that are durable, affordable, mechanical, and has a security mechanism underneath the lock so it can’t be busted through. Customer service is responsive and good; they were able to replace a defective unit. You can remove the foam padding (2 layers) if you need more room. The only complaint is that the battery sockets aren’t very secure. The batteries will fallout immediately when you take off the lid.

Product is nice, I would advise buying directly from the company

Bought this safe and am quite happy with it. 5 stars all the way. What I wanted: hefty 10 gauge steel box with a mechanical lock that is bomb proof. What I didn’t want: another safe you can open with a hatchet, whose electronic gets fryed or stops working or runs out of batteries forcing me to hunt down the keys. This product is better than the Fort Knox box. Better lighting inside and has a compartment for extra magazines. It comes with an aircraft cable. Wish it was thicker with a stronger attachment but it is better than nothing.

This is a nice quality safe and has at least the same features as other well-known competitors, and is more roomier, but at a better price point. Bolt it down to concrete and the only way someone can get its contents is with an angle grinder. I like the two adjustable shelves too, and the LED light is convenient.

This is the best hand gun safe for the amount paid. Very thick steel, well-made.The key pad was a little loose, but I was able to remove protective cover (underneath) and tighten screws.Better then delivered.I love the (non battery) keypads, Just wish they made them with more digits.Dedfinitely purchase this handgun safe.

Don’t worry about it any more. I’m a reviewer who saves your time.Usually I’m not a reviewer. But I have to leave a review for a company that makes such a good product. It’s incredible to have this kind of performance at this price.Ordinary gun accidents are caused not by criminals, but by simple mistakes or by overlooking how clever my child is.I don’t care if my child searches YouTube for “how to open without a gun-safe password” anymore. There’s no way to open it unless you have a Star Wars lightsaber.I’ve searched a lot of Gun Safe review videos for safety. Other companies’ gun safety is really simple to open. But not this beast.

This is an great and secure safe! I love the simplex lock, because it allows very quick access and will never need a battery. The gauge of steel on the safe is truly incredible. It is a really heavy piece of gear. I am confident, this could fall out of my vehicle at highway speeds, and it will not open. The only very minor issue I had was that the top edge of the safe that touches the lid when closed, due to the metal-on-metal contact from the lid, can chip paint off the top edge. This reveals the metal along top edge that contacts the bottom of the lid when closed. (the area I am talking about is covered by tape in the photo) Additionally, this metal on metal contact can cause a little bit of a rattle sound when driving down the road, even though it has very close tolerances. The simple fix that I show in photos was to put a small strip of gorilla tape across the top edge of the safe body that comes into contact with a lid when it is closed. This eliminated all rattling and vibration sound, and also makes the safe perfectly tight when closed. It requires maybe a pound or so of down pressure on the lid to lock after installing tape. But this totally illuminates the paint being chipped or any vibration from the safe while in your vehicle. This may not be important if you’re keeping the safe in your home, but I use mine to transport my firearm to the range. I use the included steel lock and cable to lock the safe to the roof support beam of my Bronco. This is an excellent and secure product – for way less than a competing and essentially identical, top-reviewed product – highly recommend this!

Clever combo design for many combos of access combinations. Has mounting holes in the bottle for securing. The cable lock needs another side to attach. I mounted it in a drawer so can use the cable. Also shocks are not strong enough for it to pop up, they aid opening but you have to lift the lid to open. Should be stronger.

This is a VERY well made safe/lock box. It has thicker steel than most safes sold by the big box stores. The only down side is most drawers will not handle a 23 pound weight. I bought this as a drawer safe for a handgun, but the drawer slides couldn’t handle the weight, so I had to relocate it. I would recommend getting a front loaded safe by the same manufacturer and putting it on a shelf instead of a drawer. Remember: security = extra steel = weight. Awesome lockbox, too hefty for most cheap furniture.

It is hefty and thick. When screwed down into a wooden shelf that is nailed and glued into the floor/wall. It is near impossible to lift off with just your bare hands and a deadlift of 600lbs. With a prybar yes with time. But at that point you would have already reached that safe during a break in or already seen the intruders on the cameras and notify the police. Keeps a large hand gun and 1-2 compact guns. Has two layers of foam that you can adjust so can reasonably stuff what you need in there. Plus an ammo pouch. Which I recommend you flip the metal wire that holds it in place so the long side is outside. When doing test runs I always manage to snag the whole bag along with the magazine. Flipping it, no longer have that issue. Would recommend this if you have kids as well.

This thing is really heavy. Thick metal, a decent lock. Overall I’m pretty pleased with it.The only thing is the interior LED light. Extremely cheap plastic, flimsy battery lid. The worst quality ever. Luckily it is fastened with only a single screw, so you can just throw this garbage away easily or replace it with a better one.
Nick Phillips –
It’s not a super quiet opening door. Sounds like a person is opening a safe…I like that this can be bolted down, secured, tucked and hidden or out in the open. Looks nice. Works well. Love the buttons and setting our own code for ease of opening. Easy to use. Secures items that deserve extra special attention. quite happy with the moveable shelf and internal light. This is a high use item and it works great. Recommended.

This safe is solid and well designed, with thicker steel than many competitors for a very reasonable price. It will easily fit two subcompacts/j-frame type revolvers as well as some accessories with room to spare, and would probably fit an additional standard pistol. The addition of the pouch and light, although minor, are appreciated. When I was resetting the default code, I noticed that the first button was completely stuck and got distracted, and while trying to unstick it/checking the other buttons, completely forgot that I was in the middle of setting a code. Luckily, their customer service is phenomenal and shortly after contacting them I was on a phone call with their technician Brian who painstakingly walked me through the steps of figuring out the code+the stuck key was able to be fixed with a little oil. This is a small company that makes excellent products and clearly stands behind them. DO NOT get distracted while inputting your code and be sure to LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN until you have tested it several times.

nice quality and solid safe.

Product came packed well. Changing the combination was really simple.

Excellent size safe for two small guns (380 auto and revolver). The assist for opening the top is a great feature. In fact, I wish the assist was even stronger so that it would open on its own when it is unlocked. As it is, only a slight upward pressure on the rim is all that is needed. We primarily bought this safe because it had a Simplex lock. No need for fingerprints, electronics or batteries! Punch in the code, then the knob, and it opens each and every time. Opens quietly with very little noise and closes almost silently. Not impressed with the cable lock system included with the safe. We are both in our 70s and have hand problems. It is just impossible for us to set in a new code without assistance, or some type of tool. I suppose you could do it if you put the lock in a vise and then have someone push and hold the set button with the end of a ballpoint pen while another person dials in the code. Also, it was difficult to know where it how the cable fits into the safe. There is nothing in the directions about how or where it attaches. The Viking company is wonderful to work with. They responded to our emails in a timely manner. And they were wonderful to talk with, and took our suggestions to heart. We are using this heavy, well-made, and easy to open gun safe by my handicapped husband’s bedside. The lock mechanism is easy for him to use (nice large knob) and that is a big plus.

I had an issue with the safe I purchased and Brian at Viking Safe went above and beyond to assist me.Product is amazing and would suggest anyone interested in purchasing a Fort Knox to really consider this as an alternative upgrade. Thanks so much for your support Brian. I will suggest your company and products to all my friends.

Nice lock. The best.
Leo Robinson –
A rugged piece of equipment to keep your valuables in. I have one tethered and another bolted down.
Sean D. –
Having lost a set of keys, and then having batteries dies and loosing access, this is the perfect solution. Exactly what we wanted.
Brianna F. –
solidly built storage. Lock works perfect and is completely mechanical. No more issues with dead batteries or finger prints not reading correctly. Opens properly every time.
Dylan U. –
I am a police officer. I did not want a gimmicky battery operated safe, I wanted it to work every time. This sits by my door and is opened every time I leave, and every time I return, and has done so for the past 18 months. This has worked flawlessly every time. The light is an awesome touch. I highly recommend this safe.

Safe arrived in perfect condition, opened it fine but had issues locking it. Talked to customer support and after speaking over the phone they helped me solve my issue within 3 minutes. Would definitely recommend this company to anyone that needs a secure easy to use safe.

This is a great product. It’s sort of a clone of the Ft. Knox (which is also great but more expensive than the Viking.) It has a few more bells and whistles than the Ft. Knox product which is the closest competitor. This includes the lighting system, the nifty pocket inside the lid, lagbolts (which saves a trip to the hardware store) and a cable with a lock.If you’re planning to make this a bedside gun safe, you’ll want to secure it to to the floor, wall, or similar anchor point. You don’t want someone walking away with your unopened safe. It comes with a cable as well as lag bolts (and four holes drilled into the bottom of the case) which will enable you to anchor the safe down. The lighting system is powered by two batteries (which are provided by the manufacturer). At first I figured the lighting falls into the “nice-to-have-but-not-necessary” department. After a while, when I started experimenting on where to actually put the safe I realized the lights come in very handy. Let’s say, for example, you’ve elected to put the Viking in a dark corner of a closet or pantry. A light really helps to see what the heck is in there.I’d recommend this to a gun owner or anyone who just needs to stash valuables.

I have this safe and keep it on the night stand. I like the ability to unlock quickly, quietly and the LED light inside gives me enough light to maneuver in the bedroom. But the main reason I have the safe is to ensure my firearm is secure from my boys who are at the age where they may be inquisitive.Hefty and secure and the customer service is outstanding if you ever need anything.

Holds my gun securely

It has lots of room, is simple to open, and fits in my nightstand drawer.
Katie Johnson –
I did A LOT of research on this and I am 100% pleased so far. Will see how it goes after time has passed.

Excellent alternative to other similar more expensive lockboxes. I do wish there was a better way to attach a security cable.
