    Nice safe for minimal storage

    US

We had to order this twice because the first box was destroyed in shipping, but I suspect that was in part due to the poor packing. This is a heavy gage metal safe, but it was packed with a super thin sheet of bubble wrap and a few broken pieces of styrofoam. The safe arrived bent in the lower corner and the paint was chipped, making a flush mount impossible. However, the customer service was prompt and provided free shipping on the return, so we re-ordered another safe. The set-up process took a few minutes, entering in your fingerprint in multiple positions and creating a code. We bought our own hardware to mount to the wall wall studs, though, in my opinion, the provided hardware would have been adequate. The shelving looks adequate from the product description and does come lined in a felt, but the locking mechanism and light brick leaves a bit to be desired. You cannot mount the interior shelving in just any location (though the mounting holes might lead you to believe otherwise), you need to mount shelving either above or below the locking mechanism area. in order for the door to shut. While the light brick is a nice idea, it doesn’t provide light below the first mounted shelf. We will use the safe to provide storage for a handgun and some jewelry, so with this in mind, I should have bought a bigger safe, as the handgun and the restricted area around the locking mechanism space provides about 3-4 inches for me to place 3 shelves up top. There is a key rack inside too, but we needed the space for storage.

Easy to set up the fingerprint settings

    US

Simple to set up the fingerprint settings, even easier to use. I would have given it 5 stars, but the Hardware to install it in a wall was not satisfactory, so we had to get new brackets at the hardware store.

  3. Rachel N.

    Pretty impressive fingerprint recognition

    US

Pretty impressive fingerprint recognition. I’d say about 90%+ success on the first try. I do wish there was a way to turn off the beeping upon unlocking and also if you leave the door open for more than a minute. There should be a switch to turn that off.Installation went as expected, no surprises there. Not a TON of room. Enough for a handgun, a couple boxes of ammo, and some spare magazines. Not a super-efficient use of interior space, as the lock mechanism takes up a fair amount of room.I would also be good if the exterior keypad was flush with the door. Putting a picture over it to conceal would be a bit easier.I would buy it again. No regrets at all.

Fantastic safe, wimpy installation bolts - buy heavier lag bolts at hardware store before installing.

    US

This is by far the heaviest strongest wall mount safe you can get. Fits perfectly between wall studs, simple to install with a sawzall. Heavier gauge steel and larger diameter bolts than other safes. Nobody is going to pry the safe out of the wall; but it s possible they could cut it out if they cut through the studs. This would take a couple of hours, a really large power tool, and make lots of noise.I take off one star because the stud attachments that are supplied with the safe are rinky dink, flimsy rolled steel with lightweight expansion plugs, really not consistent with the strength of the rest of the safe. I could envision pulling them through the stud with a long crow bar applied to the lip of the safe – without cutting trough the studs. Also they are easy to push through the stud and fall out out of reach in the section of wall that you have not cut through (I lost two of them). So I went to Lowes and for $6 bought some huge hefty lag bolts that are stronger than the 2x6s they are screwed into. That little round trip to the hardware store in the middle of the installation added over an hour to the job. I would have cheerfully paid an additional $6 up front to have had proper strength lag bolts included with the safe.

Nice for the price, Don't expect to put anything behind the Locking mechanism wider than a folder.

    US

3 things wrong with this wall safe. 1)The locking mechanism is so big there is no room for anything in the center area of the safe. 2)The key holder is only 1 inch above the locking mechanism so keys do not hang, they lay on top of the lock. IT WOULD MAKE MORE SENSE TO PUT IT BEHIND THE LOCK. 3)The keypad on the front sticks out too far to hang i picture frame in front of the safe for concealment.

  6. Owen Hernandez

    Great with a few frustrations

    US

Not as spacious as I would have hoped, but it fits the bill. It is very discreet and the biometric biometric scanner works flawlessly. Some of the shelves inside are somewhat thin, and were a pain to remove to perform the install. The bolts and the sleeves they provide for you to anchor the safe between the studs are pretty much a joke. Do yourself a favor and go get some good lag bolts to anchor the thing inside your walls. Also, the locking mechanism takes up most of the middle of the safe, so it cuts down on the already slim usable space. You’ll find that you’ll have to avoid that area with anything but paperwork.Overall I like it, but there could be some improvements made.

    Four Stars

    US

Great safe, very solidly built, poor shelves. Well worth the cost.

  8. Brian Scott

I would have given it 5 starts if it wasn't for this because it really is a good, strong safe

    US

The safe is very solidly built, the shelves on the inside are weird and don’t mount properly, they sort of slouch and can’t support more than 3 lbs. I would have given it 5 starts if it wasn’t for this because it really is a good, strong safe.

  9. Jason Jones

Had some problems but still think this is a excellent safe

    US

I had a number of problems with this and I really want to give it a 2 or 3 star rating, but the overall quality of the safe and the multiple ways to get into it won’t allow me to do that. First the problems. It was packed in a cardboard box that looked like it went around the world strapped to the front of a bus, with a handful of Styrofoam blocks inside. Not even good Styrofoam — it was the old kind that falls apart and makes a mess. But there was no physical damage to the safe itself, so I proceeded with the install. I opened it with the key and tried to set up the code first. It would not lock — the mechanism operated but the lugs did not move. It turned out that I had to disassemble the lock box inside and repair a defective part (by bending it). The vendor was very apologetic and helpful in trying to resolve this and assured me they’d replace it if I could not fix it. Their instructions were thorough and included photos, but were wrong. I was able to figure out the problem and fix it pretty easily. I let them know what the problem was and they were very appreciative — great customer service made a flawed product end up with a 4-star rating (BTW Viking never responded to my attempts to contact them — it was the Biometric Store that helped me). It was a pretty major flaw — it made the safe not able to lock even though it said it was locked. With that repaired, I installed the safe and that brings me to another problem that has nothing to do with this particular brand or model. Most of these safes are made for 16-inch-OC studs, but many interior walls have them 24 inches on center. So plan the location carefully because it’s hard to mount this in a wall when you have a big gap to fill (I made a “box” out of 2×3’s and plywood — in hindsight I should have torn open the wall and added a stud and had somebody fix the wall). Hot tip for Viking — this safe would be awesome in a 22.5-inch-wide model, and while you’re at it make it taller too.Other problems — like others have said, there is no room in the middle because the lock box is so big. I realize that it needs a lock and it needs to fit in a 3.5-inch space, but I’ve opened that lock box and it doesn’t need to be anywhere near the size it is — the mechanism is relatively small. The box is twice the size it needs to be either because they want it to look stronger or they were just lazy. With all that said, here is what I like. It seems to be put together well. It looks good. It doesn’t look cheap. There are redundant methods to access it. It comes with two very unusual keys, which you should not hide so well that you forget where you put them (like I did). You can enter a four digit code — I also forgot that. BTW make sure to set one because it will open without a code until one is set (or something like that). The fingerprint scanner is excellent. I’ve never been impressed by these, but this one works well. My fingerprints are old and well-worn and it reads my finger every time. You can enter something like 40 scans — this can be different fingers or lots of the same one or two fingers to make it learn them from every angle.I’ve had it a few months and occasionally open it just to make sure it’s still working right. So far it’s been fine. If anything goes wrong with it I’ll come back here and update but for now I’m happy. In spite of the problems I had, I agree with another review that said it seems like Viking looked at all the terrible reviews of other safes and decided to make a product that didn’t have the same issues. They mostly seem to have accomplished that.

    Happy with this safe

    US

Very happy with this safe. It’s solidly built for the most part. I’m 61 and the fingerprint option works if I wet my finger a little before I use it. The key is a joke as it is difficult to get the key in, you would never use it in an emergency. The keypad does work well. The instructions worked, however they were for a freestanding safe. The main reason it didn’t get a 5, are the junk shelves and key design. The shelves are terrible at best. I will be installing angle brackets to keep them in place as they are loose. There was more room behind the lock than I expected. A revolver fit there with no problem. With the lock mechanism sticking out 3/4″, I added a piano hinge on the right side and screwed a shadow box to the hinge. You don’t even notice it. I would / will buy another if needed.

    Better than other wall safes

    US

First thing’s first: I’m really happy with this safe. It is a lot more robust than the Cannons I used at my old house. It is shipped in a thick cardboard box, with a little bit of styrofoam, wood, and thick cardboard guards for insulation. It’s not the greatest, but not the worst. When I opened it up to test it I saw that the shelves were loose inside the safe with nothing more than a few foam pieces which were about as protective as duck and cover in a nuclear attack. My shelves weren’t bent or anything but I saw that some other reviewers did have bent tabs on their shelves and this may be why (the shelves are metal, but the tabs to secure them are small, thin, and easily bendable).Installation is simple. You can install this whether your wall studs are 16″ apart or 24″ apart. If it’s 24″ you will need to do some rigging. There are plenty of ideas available online that are easy to do. If your studs are 16″ apart, it’s much quicker and easier, this is going to fit right between them (the 16″ is from the centers of the studs, so there’s actually more like 14 1/2″ between them). Make sure you use stud finders that also detect metal, pipes, and live wires. Best thing is to put this in a wall that has no outlets or anything on either side. If you have an older house (like an old Victorian or Colonial in the Northeast), you may have a little project on your hands as they didn’t use studs the way we do now. There are three ways into this safe. The first way is via key, which is how you have to get in initially to install the batteries. Like other safes, just unscrew the logo and the keyhole is underneath (it comes with the right size hex wrench). For me, the key fit right in and this was simple. The safe uses six batteries: 4 for the control panel, 2 for the LED panel. The control panel is easy, pop off the lid, put the batteries in, put the lid back on. The LED panel requires you to use a screwdriver to remove it. It was a little bit of a pain to get the box open but I got it. As a note, there are 6 AA batteries included with the safe, but like so many other things, the batteries included with mine were cheap and also almost dead. I expected this and was prepared for it with my own. Save yourself some trouble and use fresh batteries.Programming your new code (don’t leave the default code, it’s the first thing a thief will try) is simple. Scanning new fingerprints is even easier. Unlike GunVault, there are no “admin” fingerprints. Just push the red button on the inside of the safe door and you can program it. I scanned all of my fingers from 3 different angles to make sure. It’s favorite scan is of my middle fingers (go figure). Most fingerprint scanners don’t like my thumb prints, this one is no exception. The nice thing about this safe is that you also have the code. Since age or certain activities can render your fingerprints unreadable, the safe isn’t useless because you can always punch your code combination in. To use the fingerprint, hit # and the red LED goes on indicating it’s time to put a finger on the scanner. Use * to punch in a code (after you’re done with the code, use * again to open). Regardless of which method you use, after you close it, remember to push # to relock it (if you forget, it will beep incessantly after a few minutes which is the warning that it’s still open). As far as space inside, I know that some reviewers complained about the space behind the locking mechanism. I put a Sig Sauer P229 handgun behind it and was able to close it fine without any interference from the handgun (you won’t be able to put a gun that size behind the locking mechanism while in a holster). So there is actually a decent amount of space. There are also tabs at the top to hang keyrings from so you can keep important keys in here (like keys to other safes, do NOT keep the key to this safe inside of it).As far as security goes, this thing is heavy duty. It would take some work to pry open or cut. Actually, I’d say compared to other safes of this class, it’s a bit more secure. Like any wall mounted safe, a persistent thief can just cut it out of the wall with a saw and be done with it. But again, a smash and grab thief who does not have a lot of time or cart around power tools. If you are concerned, other security measures (alarms, motion sensors, cameras, etc) should be employed. For what this is, I think it’s worth the money and it deserves the five stars I have given it.

Very nice safe with one major issue

    US

Fantastic safe with the exception of the shelf system. Unlike the rest of the safe the shelves are flimsy and cheaply made. I’ve had them fall out with their contents into my feet (ouch) several times. Otherwise the safe is excellent, sturdy, and the locking system and biometric entry is all pretty good.

  13. Alyssa S.

    Nice solid safe

    US

Fits very nicely in the wall between wall studs – leaves some space, so you can adjust. Comes with 2 wooden blocks for ease of mounting. Haven’t tried to force it, but looks and feels solid. Reads thumb prints with no issues, haven’t had to put it code nor use the key yet

  14. Jason Green

    Hit or miss.

    US

It’s a good safe…but the inside Needs stronger/sturdier shelves, wide and more space, light isn’t bright enough to use on anything but 1st shelf. (Barely enough room for my 9mm + extra magazine)

  15. Kevin Cruz

simple to install. Does the job. Seems to be built well but I haven’t tried the break into it either… 🙂

  17. Jamie L.

Excellent option for a hidden safe!

    US

simple to install… looks great… knew it would be small on the inside so can’t ding it for that… but the shelves are worthless. The biometric scanner has not let me down at all so very pleased!

  18. Brianna Lopez

    good solid safe

    US

good solid safe. the red button on the interior is down inside the door, I haven’t taken it apart yet to see if I can fix it. you have to access the red button to set the finger print. was simple to install between standard studs.

I am completely satisfied with the manner in which they handled my issue ...

    US

I bought the Viking Security Safe Model VS-52BLX from on 11/25/2017 (Order # 111-6447498 7509003). The safe arrived on 11/28/2017 (Three days later).I just recently hired a contractor to install it, and upon opening the shipping box we noticed that on of the tabs on the shelf was broken off. I emailed the Company and explained the problem and they quickly responded and asked me a few questions and to send them some photos of the shelf, which I did.The next day they informed me that they would be sending me a replacement shelf at no cost. I am completely satisfied with the manner in which they handled my issue and how quickly they responded. I wish other companies would be as proactive as Viking Security Safe Company. The contractor commented on how easy the safe was to install, it took him about 45 minutes from start to finish.I started to read the instructions for programming the four digit PIN, and to program my fingerprint. It was very easy to do, and my wife also programmed her fingerprint as well. I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for a home wall safe to look at Viking Security Safe’s website and choose the one that best fits their needs.I will recommend them to all my friends and family.Thank you Viking for a excellent product!!

  20. Brianna Anderson

    Good for the money

    US

Fits as expected. Works as expected. One down side… the internal shelves easily detach and fall out. They are somewhat useless. You will have to find a way to bolt them down.

  21. Cameron Johnson

    Nice safe but...

    US

Because the keypad sticks out it can’t be really flush with the wall.

  22. Charlotte Wilson

I have yet to install this in the wall as ...

    US

I have yet to install this in the wall as my bedroom is currently being remodeled, but I have been opening and closing it multiple times a day to test it before I make it a permanent fixture inside of a wall. There is a lot more space between the back of the safe and lock mechanism than I anticipated (enough to fit a full-size handgun between). The fingerprint scanner works 100%. My only complain was the packaging. One of the key hooks was bent out of shape, but nothing hat a pair of pliers couldn’t fix.

  23. Quinn O.

    Nice safe

    US

So like all the other reviews say the shelves suck, and the mounting hardware does too. I would go get some lag bolts and use those. As for the shelves not much you can do they fell on me once. However all that said I do like it and I might buy another.

  24. Ryan Carter

    Well worth it

    US

Have this in my office. Like the finger scanner it works every time, love the handle makes it simple to open

  25. Ben M.

    Good one , worth it

    US

Works good for me , make sure your finger is a bit greasy or sweaty otherwise the biometric scanner won’t work. I mean just blow a bit of your breath towards the finger befor you touch the reader. It works slower if your skin is too dry. My son can open it in one second , I struggle a bit sometimesThat’s me not the machine. Definitely worth the cost.

  26. Brianna R.

Underrated safe, could easily charge double.

    US

I have another Viking safe and had no problems with it.Happy to report this safe is good quality just like the last one. If you follow the directions, registering multiple fingers/people makes this biometric scanner foolproof. This safe provides first touch read. I tested all the kids fingers to see if it would give a false open command, no problems there…Build quality, battery life, one touch finger read of the sensor, and no false openings. This is the most underrated safe brand in the market.I have done significant research on how other small safes are defeated easily. Some are opened with a soda straw.. Viking seems to have addressed all of the “internet” versions of defeating small safes.examples of the easiest forms of entry:backup access with Tubular pin (round key) can be opened with a ebay pick in seconds – viking uses a cross type.Accessible fingerprint buttons through opening/gaps in the face of the unit – viking has minimal gaps and a specific metal plate welded to the hinge side to block this type of attack. One singe con of this safe is shipping issues. I did have the shelves somewhat loose inside with a couple random pieces of foam block that were basically shredded. I did bend a couple tabs to fit better on those shelves, but only needed a single shelf anyhow. Also the main box was torn open and lost a mounting/wall lug.I emailed viking and a rep actually emailed back asking info. Under a week they sent a whole bag of lugs and increased the warranty for the trouble. They also seemed genuinely interested in tracking the shipping type, manufacture batch, and date to remedy the problem.

  27. Dan Williams

    As reviewed

    US

This safe was delivered with the packaging in nice condition but the shelves inside were loose and a bit scratched up. This was reported in reviews I read but I chose the build of the safe over poor packaging. I wish the manufacturer would listen and at least wrap the loose shelves with bubble wrap. Otherwise this would have received a 5 star.

  28. Jack Anderson

This unit is built very solid.

    US

This is worth every penny. Built, sturdy, strong and easy to install. I normally don’t take the time to write reviews but in this case it’s a must. The steel is twice as thick as anything I could find off the shelves in the sporting goods stores. Shipping was secured right from the factory and double boxed from Biometrics to insure it arrived in perfect condition.Set up was fast and easy. BOOM, get it now and feel secure that your guns and valuables are safe and secure. I would recommend this to everyone.JACK

Well made quality product and was simple to install the only problem is the shelves could be a touch better but it would not stop me from buying it again

  30. Matt Phillips

    nice safe nice value

    US

Just installed the Viking safe, took about an hour to install and set up was pretty easy. It works perfect for what we need it for. The setup went real easy had no problems with the biometric scanner every thing was done on the first try.

  31. Kevin Parker

    Easy installation

    US

Was concerned about reviews stating damaged shelves, the packing within the safe was all broken up like others mentioned. Product was not damaged in any way, shelves were in tact and installation took within 20 minutes. Very satisfied so far with programming codes and biometric scanner. Would defiantly recommend to others in search of a wall safe.

  32. Allison Allen

    Good safe.

    US

This safe was simple to install find the wall studs, cut the drywall, drill holes and install. The safe controls are easy to use. Both code and fingerprint set up is easy. If you are good at light construction this is definitely a good safe.

  33. Taylor Williams

    Nice wall safe

    US

Ease of installation, seems like a very nice quality safe. Only wish it had an auto lock. Use many angles on the biometric and it will open every time.

  34. Emily Nelson

    Perfect for our valuables

    US

This was an simple install and is exactly what we needed to protect our valuables without a huge effort or something in the way. The biometric scanner was easy to setup and works well, plus it’s nice to have the option of typing in a code. My only complaint is the way the door/shelves are designed, there’s not a lot of options for places to put bulky items. This is really meant for paperwork and small items. Highly recommend.

  35. Sam I.

    Secure Safe well made.

    US

The directions are written in such small print one needs a magnifying glass. So, a lot of common sense needed. Screw holes are under the felt on the inside and it’s too bad the felt could not have been cut so it didn’t have to be altered. The screws are NOT included for wall mounting into wood wall studs. Just included are cement screws. Safe is well made. Coding is simple. Shelves are narrow and do not fit behind the door mechanism due to protrusion.

  36. Brian B.

An okay safe... but beware of the biometric scanner!

    US

Nice wall safe! Easy to install. However, the biometric scanner is balky … reads sometimes, sometimes not! The combination system is flawless, so we use it instead.

  37. Brianna E.

Solid external construction, but inside is dissapointing

    US

The shelves are poorly made, bend easily, do not fit in that well. The hinges and mechanism also take up space inside the safe that you don’t realize until you try to close the door and they catch on something or squish something inside. The lock and biometric sensor are working well though.

  38. Jordan Hill

    US

Nice for the price. The lock mechanism takes up a fair amount of space inside and limits the shelf placement. Using this as a locking medicine cabinet.

  39. Dan B.

    Great Safe

    US

This is a really great safe. It’s super easy to install and very easy to use. The only thing hard to use about is that the numbers on the keypad are almost impossible to read.

  40. Katie U.

better thsn most safes ive seen in stores.

    US

I’ve been using this safe everyday over a year, biometric scanner gives quick access and no issues so far. I’m very happy with this safe. Its not fire proof., but i mainly use it to keep my pistol away from the kids and its need doing a great job so far.

  41. Brian Garcia

Secure but quick entry to safe

    US

Not a lot of storage but couple of guns and ammo with some jewelry work just fine. Nice thickness to steel and easy install. Never going to replace full size gun safe but will keep curious eyes and fingers away no matter what age.

  42. Jamie Taylor

    Does the job

    US

robust. For a wall safe it does it’s job.

  43. Noah Allen

    Great Safe!

    US

Overall, it’s excellent! The fingerprint and keypad work great every time.I suppose if I were to change something, it would be the placement of the electrical component box. Instead of having it take up internal space, I would rather it protruded outward a few inches. Since it’s not quite flush with the wall anyways, why not increase the interior space by having it stick out a little more? The vast majority of people install theirs in a closet behind clothes, not behind a painting. In order to close the door you cannot place a shelf in the middle section. My firearm just fits if I stand it up (see photo). Not a big deal really, just a thought. Great safe. Thanks!Note: when installing, use a deep scanner. My first 4″x4″ test hole revealed a pipe, which my stud finder would have noticed, had I performed a deep scan. Now I have some plastering to do. 🙁

    Worked well for me

    US

I bought this safe in late 2017, and it was working, on the original batteries, when we moved in Aug 2018. The shelves are weak, but the safe worked well, and I never had problems with the biometric scanner.Installation is pretty easy as long as you can use a sawzall and a drill, and you don’t even have to be that excellent with them.

  45. Emma R.

    Perfect for a closet

    US

Aside from this being a great product, the company stands behind their product. One of the two I purchased wasn’t working right. They replaced it – no questions ask. No problems since it was replaced. simple to install, easy to program and a great safe solution.

    Great Wall Safe

Safe is very sturdy, came defect free and installed as expected. The packaging is a bit cheap but I had nothing bent.A few items- The bolts that came with the safe are for masonry or concrete so normal wood installation needs 4 lag screws. I used some I had laying around- Buy a sheet rock saw for simple cutting. Took 5 minutes to cut 14.5” x 19” hole.- Make sure where you place the safe has no wires or plumbing. Where I wanted to put it had an outlet on the back side of the wall so I had to move it down a joist.- The instructions to set the combination are good and worked- The key is pretty cool and hopefully more secure.- fingerprint scanner has worked every time I’ve tried it and is fast. About a dozen times- You can turn off the keypad beeps but not the open door beep. At least I couldn’t figure out how- Shelves are adequate and easily hold a 1911 with 2 mags and no deflection.- The metal has an appealing texture to the paint.I almost didn’t buy because of the “bad” reviews until I noticed they mainly came from one reviewer “BC”. BC, get new electronics and stop trolling the question section and review section.

Have had my safe for about 3 years. Never had a problem, easy to use, keeps small things safe and easy access. Recently after closing alarm went off and key pad stopped responding. Keys lost??? Sent Email to VIKING and had a response within the day. This all happened during the christmas holiday and a replacement was sent. Excellent service responseSafe as opened battery removed waited 5 minutes replaced new batteries and good as new. Codes and fingerprints were retained. Great product and backed up by excellent people that care.

Easy to install and set up. biometric scanner works for one person but not the other (warned about that in the set-up info). Wish the combo could be set for six digits instead of not four.
